Who we see from Lake Illawarra
The suburb borrowed the lake’s name and sits on the southern side of the entrance, tucked under Windang Bridge. Reddall Parade traces the shoreline, and almost everything worth knowing about Lake Illawarra sits on it: Reddall Reserve with its playground, barbecues and the boat ramp off Ocean Street just south of the bridge. The lake is about 35 square kilometres of tidal water with some 37 kilometres of shoreline — a prawning and fishing lake first. The Wadi Wadi and Dharawal peoples fished it long before the foreshore pines and the guesthouse era of the 1920s and 30s, and Council began reshaping the foreshore for recreation in 1985.
Three groups fill most of our appointment book from here. Sport is the loudest: Cec Glenholmes Oval on Reddall Parade is the Warilla-Lake South Gorillas’ home ground. Between that, Lake Illawarra High School up the road since 1972 and Lake Illawarra South Public, ankles, knees and shoulders arrive steadily. Second, the foreshore crowd — laps of the shared path, or the walk out toward Boonerah Point, where hips and arthritic backs decide how far they get. Third, work: this is a residential suburb, so people drive out to sites, warehouses, wards and aged-care shifts, and those jobs produce lifting and repetitive-load injuries.
From Lake Illawarra to Captain Cook Drive
Reddall Parade meets Shellharbour Road, which runs south through Warilla; Lake Entrance Road carries you the rest of the way, and Captain Cook Drive comes off it at Barrack Heights. Two roads, no highway — about 5 minutes, longer at school pick-up.
Without a car it still works, which matters here. Buses run down Shellharbour Road toward Warilla and Shellharbour, and the nearest stop to our door is on Lake Entrance Road about 150 metres away.
Worth knowing: this is a medical complex, not a shopping centre. It also holds a GP practice, pharmacy, dental, pathology and radiology. Physiotherapy and psychology are the only HealthPlex services at this address.

Veteran Card holders with a referral: DVA’s fee is accepted as full payment, no gap charged.
Plan funded, not bulk billed. Participants can use plan funding for physiotherapy where their plan includes it.
Two terms get blurred constantly. Bulk billed means Medicare, and Medicare only pays a physiotherapy benefit when you hold a valid referral. No out-of-pocket cost applies under WorkCover, CTP and DVA, where an insurer or the Commonwealth pays instead.
